Letterboxing and giggles

It was such a gorgeous day today, we got out of the house and went letterboxing for the first time since I was pregnant! We headed out to Green Hill Cemetery, which is one of the city's oldest. We had 2 boxes to locate...the first one we think got moved because we know we were in the right location, but we couldn't find it. The second one we found on our way out. We had a nice walk all the way around as well, and the fall leaves were just beautiful.

Here are a few photos from today:

In fun baby news, we got our first giggles from Ella tonight! There were just a few, but they were definitely giggles :) Fun. Hopefully more of that to come.

I swear, I don't know how people work a normal M-F 9:00-5:00 schedule.

It's killing me. I'm absolutely exhausted. I get home from work, sit down, and I don't want to move.

How do people do this on a regular basis, and more importantly, why?? I've got two more weeks of this mess, too. Blech. Oh, well.

I want to go letterboxing. The weather is so nice out lately (we've actually been running the heat in the mornings!), but with our schedules being so out of kilter lately, it'll just have to wait.

A few photos from today

We went out to Cedarock Park in Burlington.

We took the yellow trail!

Sadly, no beers nearby...

I carved my first stamps today!

For letterboxing, Jon and I had been using a dog paw print stamp that we bought at Michael's. It wasn't great though...the print always came out kind of crappy, and most people who letterbox hand-carve their own stamps. So today, I bit the bullet and decided to try carving my own.

I found some directions online through one of the LB websites we use, and it seemed easy enough. I went and bought a few supplies, and when I got back from errands this afternoon, I sat down to start carving, not really knowing if it would turn out any good....but the paw print came out so well, I decided to do another one! The second one is "Lumo", which is our trail name.

What do you think?

Today's traipsing

A few photos from today's adventure... we headed out to Bethabara Park in Winston-Salem, which was the first Moravian settlement in NC back in 1753. Really interesting stuff, and some lovely nature trails as well. The church that is there (the Gemeinhaus) is the original structure, which is just incredible.

The palisades there were part of the only fort built in NC during the French-Indian war. (Those are not the original palisades... it was rebuilt.)

We found 3 out of 4 boxes we were looking for, and seem to have managed to avoid getting poison ivy :)

Photos from yesterday

Jon and I went letterboxing again out at Bicentinnial Gardens, the Bog Gardens, and Country Park. It was a little hotter than we would have liked, but we found the box we missed the day before, as well as several others, and 2 more hitchhikers.

Since we knew we were going back out to the bog gardens, we took some bread out with us to feed the ducks and geese... they were coming from miles around, it seemed like. Then, they started a sneak attack from behind, flanking us from the rear on the walkway! They got a little agressive, but didn't attack. We just gave 'em the rest of the bread and took off :)

Letterboxing

Jon and I went letterboxing for the first time today! What a cool thing. We went to 2 places... found a box at the first, but didn't have luck at the 2nd, and we actually started running out light. So we're going to head out again tomorrow and try again (as well as go to a few other places).

And as a little bonus, we found a hitchhiker at the first place we went to as well! I didn't even know about these beforehand, so that was a nice little bonus.

These are a few photos that we took today. I have no idea what kind of bird that is, but we were really startled to see him!
