Here's my new toy that Ella and Jon got me for Mother's Day:
The Magic Mouse! (Yes, I am the kind of dork who gets a new mouse for Mother's Day and thinks it's awesome.) It's taken me a little getting used to, but it's really neat. I'm planning to upgrade my OS to Snow Leopard here in the next day or two as well, and then I'll be able to download the BetterTouchTool add-on, which apparently really kicks up the capabilities.
As additional Mother's Day treats, I got to sleep in this morning, which was lovely, and Jon made breakfast for me, too. It was meant to be breakfast in bed, but I woke up before he finished cooking :) Then we went out to dinner with my folks tonight.
All in all, a lovely day.
On a completely unrelated note, I am beyond excited that Friday Night Lights is back on TV! Oh, my...this is such a good show. If you're not watching, you're really missing out. I don't even like football, and I can't get enough of this show. The acting, the writing, the soundtrack, the cinematography...it's all just amazing.

House a'fire (again)!
So, I set the stove on fire. In case you're keeping track, that would be the 2nd time since we've lived in this house that I've done that.
I'm not that bad of a cook, really. We just happen to have a super-crappy stove. (That's right, blame it on the equipment.)
I was actually in the kitchen (although back to the stove) when the fire broke out. Lucky thing, I guess, or the whole house might have gone up in smoke.
We now have a nicely singed dish towel, as I didn't have any baking soda to toss on it. Guess I'll pick some of that up at the store today.
Also, on a completely unrelated note, that toilet paper commercial where the puppy calls himself sexy really gets under my skin.

Zack Morris is one of the creepiest characters on TV.
I'm up early in the mornings nowadays (contrary to my life pre-baby), and usually when I'm feeding Ella, I'll flip on the TV and catch one (or all) of the episodes of "Saved By the Bell" that come on between 7am and 9am.
Now, I watched this program when it originally aired, which, according to imdb.com, was 1989-1993, although admittedly, I watched more of the early seasons than the later ones. At the time, I didn't really give a lot of thought to Zack's behavior...he just seemed like a nice guy who had always had a thing for Kelly, and sometimes schemed to get his way.
As I watch now, though, in my wiser, and much more jaded state, it seems to me that Zack is not as nice of a guy as he appears when you're 12 years old. He's constantly walking all over his supposed best friend Screech, getting him involved in all his wacky schemes and making him look like a complete ass. Screech kowtows to everything Zack says and does though, too afraid to grow a spine and stand up for himself. For instance, in one episode, Zack misses the deadline for getting his recommendation to do a semester at sea. Screech, however, gets his in on time. Zack's immediate reaction, instead of sucking it up and realizing he screwed up, is to try and con Screech our of his spot on the boat. Now, that doesn't sound like something a "nice guy" would do to me.
And then there's the whole issue of Zack's scary obsession with Kelly Kapowski. If I were this girl, I would be getting a restraining order. Zack might occasionally date other girls, but his heart belongs to Kelly, as evidenced when he says things to her like, "This is the way it should always be," in a super-serious, almost threatening voice. He tries to control her and hold her back from taking advantage of great opportunities, like the modeling gig in Paris -- hello, red flag! Isn't that a sign of an abusive relationship -- trying to control what your partner does? And yet, somehow, she keeps going back to him, which I can't explain at all. Most girls I know would run like the wind from someone like Zack.
Clearly, I've been watching too much "Saved By the Bell" lately, and giving this far too much thought. But seriously -- I've got some valid points here.

Psst...NBC...
...this is NOT how you spell "swimming."

This was the on-screen graphic they showed a few moments ago right before they cut to commercial.
Nice job on the edit, y'all.

If I were a pillowcase, where would I be?
I changed the sheets today, and I'm missing 2 pillowcases from the new set I put on the bed. How exactly does one LOSE 2 pillowcases?
I looked in all the standard places, to no avail. I really have no clue where they could be.
I've had a few sporadic contractions today, but again, nothing consistent. I guess a few is better than nothing?
Today I decided that watching "A Baby Story" at this point in my pregnancy is a bad idea -- I wind up in tears every time, I think mostly because I'm so tired of being pregnant. THOSE people got to have THEIR babies, dammit...why can't I? UGH.
Crap, I just remembered I forgot to go to the pet store today for cat food. So now I'll probably go into labor tonight since they're out of kibble :) Fingers crossed!

What not to call your new medicine.
There's a commercial I've seen for a new acid reducer that's out on the market, and the name of the drug is AcipHex.
It's pronounced "Ass-effects". Whose brilliant marketing idea was that?
Anyway. I worked more in the spare room today, and somehow, it looks worse now than it did when I started. I cleaned a bunch of stuff out of the dresser, cleaned out what I could reach in the closet w/o having to climb, and put all the baby stuff away. I have a ton of stuff piled up ready to go to Goodwill later this week.
By the way, if you don't know about this already, I highly recommend using It's Deductible from TurboTax to help track any charitable donations you make throughout the year. It's great b/c they actually will price donations for you, like clothes and household stuff, so you don't have to do the research yourself. Makes it nice when tax time rolls around, because it tells you exactly what your deduction is.

Wanna see the funniest picture of Wilbur?
First of all, understand that this cat shows very little interest in anything other than food. However, we had "Winged Migration" on TV a few nights ago, and he actually started *watching* the TV. It was so funny.... he was just fascinated!
The other 2 couldn't have cared less, but boy, he was into it :)

It's about time.
I don't watch soap operas myself so much, but I heard that recently As The World Turns featured the first gay kiss on daytime TV. I say good for them. I think it'll be a great day when stuff like this doesn't have to be such a big deal. Equality and acceptance aren't far-fetched ideas.
