Pink Shoes
Inspired by Erika's Red Shoes post over on her blog, I snapped a picture of Ella in her pink Chucks when we were out at the Farmers' Market today.
Jenny actually gave these to us at our baby shower, and she's just been able to wear them in the past few months. They kill me with their cuteness. I expect that there will be many more pairs of Converse in her future :)
On a completely unrelated note, I've been listening to We Were Promised Jetpacks (yes, that's actually the name of the band) a lot lately -- good stuff. I recommend you check them out, posthaste. Particularly if you have a thing for Scottish accents. Not that I do or anything.

I came to a conclusion yesterday.
When most of the bands you listen to now offer baby onesies in their online stores, you are officially old and are no longer listening to cool music.

Our daughter already has good musical taste.
She seems to have a real liking for The Decembrists. Every time I put them on, she calms right down and listens to them. They are fantastic, though, so who can blame her? (By the way, if you haven't heard their album The Crane Wife, you are seriously missing out.)
I totally forgot to mention it, but this past Wednesday was our 3rd anniversary (insert obligatory "awwwww" here). We've been in such a whirlwind lately, we both didn't even get a chance to say "happy anniversary" to each other till 12:06 AM the day after. We did go to a really nice dinner out at Fleming's while Mom and Dad watched Ella for us. I was going to scan in a few photos from our wedding, but my scanner doesn't want to work for some reason.
Yesterday we went to Raleigh for a big family gathering at my aunt and uncle's house. My cousin and her 2 kids were in from Denver, and another aunt was in from NJ, so it was nice to have Ella meet some more new relatives. She did really well around so many people, too.
Some more big news coming up later next week...I can't say anything yet, but I'll just keep you in suspense....
And just because I'm usually behind the camera, here's a shot of Ella and me, courtesy of the iMac:

No news is, well, no news.
Not much going on around these parts. I've been having *very* sporadic contractions the past couple days, but nothing even resembling consistent. I just got back from walking around the grocery store for awhile, hoping that might help. (I did the shopping while I was there, I wasn't just wandering around like a homeless person.)
We found out the other day that we have baby bunnies! Or at least one, anyway. We pulled up in the driveway and the teensiest little rabbit was sitting right under the edge of the cedar tree in the front yard. We've had big rabbits around since we've lived here, but this is the first baby we've seen. It was too cute. I hope it stays safe under the cedar tree and out of the talons of the hawk we saw last weekend.
I've been listening to a lot of Pandora lately. Check it out if you haven't. I've picked up a few new bands as a result of it.

Arcade Fire!
Jon and I just got back from their show, which was also an Obama rally (sadly, he wasn't there... we were kind of hoping he might show up, LOL).
The show was FANTASTIC. It was the first time we'd seen them, and they really were tremendous. There were probably around 300 people there all together, so not crowded at all.
If you've not seen them and ever get the chance -- GO.
We didn't get have to pay for tickets, but if we had, it still would have been worth it.
Jon and I stopped to meet Win Butler (the lead singer) after the show, and had our picture taken w/him. Nice guy -- and VERY tall :)

2 concerts in 8 days.
A while back, Jon got tickets for us to go see Radiohead in Charlotte next month, which we're way excited for.
Then today, thanks to a heads-up from Jay yesterday, we got hooked up w/free tickets to see Superchunk (eh) and the Arcade Fire (WOO!) next week as part of Obama's "Change Rocks" campaign. FREE! We were downtown in front of the courthouse at about 7:30 this morning waiting in line w/a bunch of hipsters, which we are not. We were, however, the oldest people there.
But anyway, 2 concerts in a little more than a week ain't bad.

The Con
Jon downloaded the latest album from Tegan and Sara for me the other day. Very, very good. I'd listened to a couple of their songs years ago, and wasn't overwhelmed. I don't know if I didn't give them enough of a chance, or if my musical tastes have changed, but I really like what I hear.
A few stand-out songs are Knife Going In, Nineteen, and Call It Off.
Good stuff. And they're Canadian, so bonus. I think we might try to go see them at the Cat's Cradle when they're down this way in November.
They worked with a couple of the guys from Death Cab for Cutie on this album... can't get away from the guys in that band :)

"I don't know what the guys in the PEARL JAM do with their cheese..."
Jon is all bent out of shape b/c Pearl Jam announced they are doing a show in Chicago next week. We entertained the idea ever-so-briefly of trying to go, but airfare was $800, and there's no way we're driving up there and back over the course of 2 days. Oh well. It'd be pretty hard to get tickets anyway, since they're playing at the Vic, which holds less than 1500 people.
Sara and Randy are trying for tickets though... I'll keep my fingers crossed! :)
